Pickering Travel Guide
Welcome to Pickering!
Not many places in Canada can claim to be the home of a national icon, however Pickering boasts the honour. The hometown of the beloved children's entertainer Ernest Coombs, better known as Mr. Dress-Up, Pickering is a popular destination only 34 km (22 mi) east of Toronto on Highway 401. Located on the north shore of Lake Ontario, Pickering has a population of about 94,000 and is known as a place for travellers looking to enjoy waterfront activities, like water skiing, swimming and boating. But for people along the lake looking to stay dry, the Pickering Waterfront Trail is over 650 km (404 mi) long and offers activities to enjoy such as roller blading, biking or jogging. For history buffs, visiting the Pickering Museum Village is a perfect way to spend the day. Displaying a variety of artifacts, the museum is actually a series of colonial-period homes preserved as a working historic village. Summer visitors can enjoy free outdoor concerts every Thursday night at 7pm in July and August as part of the Waterfront Concert series.Tourist Attractions
